Structured Media Enclosures (not “media cabinets”…that sounds like a place to store your DVDs) Leviton offers four enclosure sizes — 14″, 21″, 28″, and 42″ — that address different capacities and provide expandable functionality for “wired” homes. These enclosures provide a convenient termination location for wiring home runs from wall outlets, and create a distribution point for voice, data, and video applications in a single-family residence or multi-dwelling unit. Leviton offers a size to support all specifications and floor plans. The primary difference among the enclosures is their size: the larger the enclosure, the more modules and panels it can hold. In addition, surge-protected AC and universal power options are available to accommodate multiple active modules within the enclosure. There is virtually no limit to the size or complexity of the system you install in a normal residence. Every room can be wired for data, telephone, and multi-media. Unlike AC wiring, where you must meet mandatory spacing requirements for devices and minimum installation standards, residential structured cable standards are more versatile.
a. Structured Media Components — Twist and Mount Patch Panels allow you to punch-down Cat 5e or Cat 6 cabling on component-rated commercial-style patch panels. The cable-relief feature maintains cable position during termination. You then simply twist and mount the panel into place using integrated push-lock pins. The low-profile of the Twist and Mount Patch Panel provides extra room for your patch cord’s bend radius in the Structured Media® enclosure. Comes in a high-tech black matte finish.
b. Power Supplies and Surge Protection — Structured cabling systems rely on active gear that requires low-voltage power and surge protection. Leviton offers power supplies with extra plugs that eliminate the need for bulky power adapters within enclosures.
c. A/V Signal Extensions – The popularity of “man-cave” build-outs in garages and basements has given rise to a new residential application for signal extension technology, previously used predominantly in commercial network situations like corporate boardrooms and university classrooms. The increasing convergence of AV and data networks has positioned low-voltage networks as the next generation of AV integration. Leviton’s new IT/AV systems helps with easy-to-install solutions. An IT/AV System combines Leviton HDBaseT™ HDMI® Extenders, Atlas-X1 Cat 6A connectivity and approved Cat 6A cable for a complete end-to-end solution. The Cat 6A infrastructure link can be installed, tested, and verified like any other Cat 6A 10GBASE-T link. This system is also certified to HDBaseT Alliance standards. Leviton solutions allow users to extend HDMI®, VGA, and USB signals to the latest devices practically anywhere in the house, all networked over easy-to-install category-rated cable. HDMI cables used to be limited in distance to 40-50 feet, but with Leviton’s HDBaseT 100 m Extender, signals can be sent over standard category cable up to 328 feet, making it easier than ever to have remote locations share in the same whole-house media sources with HD video distribution.
